June 16 – 26

Singin’ in the Rain

The Davidson Community Players are excited to present the “greatest movie musical of all time.” Lovingly adapted by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, this stage play makes sure to include every unforgettable song, scene and dance from the beloved movie. Great for the entire family, this musical is ideal for those who can’t get enough of the golden-age of musical productions. Tickets start at $15 and the performance will be held at the Duke Family Performance Hall. 

 

June 17-19

Mingling on the Greens Concert Series

Birkdale Village hosts its annual summer concert series. Catch live music each Friday and Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and each Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

 

June 18

Summit Solstice 12-Hour Relay and Festival

All proceeds will benefit the Team Summit Foundation, a local nonprofit that raises money to sponsor children from low-income families to attend summer camps in the Davidson area. The relay is from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and can be run in one-, four-, or eight-person teams. The festival is for all ages, and will go from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will include a human bowling slip ‘n slide, an inflatable obstacle course, tents set up by local businesses, food, beer provided by Sierra Nevada, and live music.

 

Improv Night

The Are You Ready for the Summer Comedy Improv Musical Extravaganza stars the Chuckleheads, which is Charlotte’s improvisational theatre group. The all-ages show starts at 6 p.m., and the adult show is at 8. The performance will have improvisational comedy games as well as audience participation, and food and beverages are available throughout the show.

 

4th-Annual Cornelius Food Truck Invitational

If you’re taste buds are craving something delicious and limitless, come to the Cornelius Food Truck Invitational from noon until 8 p.m. Everyone can cast a vote, whether you’re a food judging novice or an experienced critic. Categories include best looking truck, most creative menu, and most nutritious, while a panel of local celebrity judges decide who will win the critic’s choice trophy.

 

Outdoor Movie Series

Northcross Shopping Center presents its outdoor movie series every Saturday in June. Movies start after dusk at the pond between Portrait Innovations and Taxco. Bring lawn chairs to this free event for the whole family. This week’s film is “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

 

Davidson Farmer’s Market

The market is open every Saturday, 8 a.m. to noon. The market is located next to Town Hall between Main and Jackson streets.

 

Mooresville Farmers Market

Featuring fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy, homemade desserts, and breads as well as local handmade products and crafts. The 2016 market will be held in Liberty Park from 8 a.m. until noon every Saturday through September 24.

 

Huntersville Growers’ Market

The market, sponsored by Novant Health, occurs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon, May 21 to September 24, at the Huntersville Elementary School parking lot (200 Gilead Road). Today’s theme is Father’s Day, featuring giveaways including grilling baskets, spices, and more. Chef Matt will also be grilling delicious samples.

 

June 19

Donuts with Dad

Dads get in free all day on June 19 at the Carolina Raptor Center. Enjoy Father’s Day on the trail with donuts and light beverages.

 

Concerts on the Green

Head to the Davidson Town Green for summer concerts on select Sunday evenings of each month. This week features Image. Concerts run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

 

June 22

Outdoor Cinema Series

The Town of Cornelius hosts an outdoor movie series twice a month during the summer. This week’s showing is “Minions” at Cornelius Town Hall. Movies begin at dusk.

 

June 23

LangTree Live

Enjoy a free live concert at LangTree Lake Norman each week. This week features Colby Dobbs. D9 Brewing Company will be on site. LangTree live runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and music starts at 6:30 p.m.

 

Peninsula Farmer’s Market

This community farmer’s market is open every Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Peninsula Yacht Club. Expect seasonal fruits and veggies, grass-fed beef and pork, seafood, eggs, local honey, homemade peanut butter, artisan breads and baked good, fresh juices, and cold beer.

 

Food Truck Thursdays

Head to Primal Brewery each Thursday for food trucks, music, and beer. Trucks will be on site from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.

 

June 24-26

Second Friday Craft Crawl

Old Town Cornelius brings together the area’s most talented and innovative artists and craftsmen for this monthly event. Second Friday All Arts Market also features entertainment, area business, local breweries, and food trucks. Visit from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Oak Street Mill.

Bring blankets and chairs to enjoy the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra at the Baily Road Park Bandshell. Gates open at 6 p.m. with the prelude at 6:45. The headlining presentation of “Celebrate America!” begins at 8:15 p.m., with fireworks immediately after.
