Like many lifelong music fans, Amy Broome was inspired by a song, but unlike most of us, she did something about it. After hearing Melissa Etheridge’s signature hit song, “Come to My Window,” she picked up a guitar, knowing she could make others feel the same way.

Now, eight years into playing live music, Broome has become a self-proclaimed stage addict. “It’s therapy. It’s the one thing you can do, and you know you will feel better after you have done it,” says Broome, a Cornelius resident. “It’s both mental and physical. I hate just hour-long gigs – I feel like I’m just getting it warmed up.”

A software developer by day, Broome is backed up by the talent of The Amy Broome Band at night. Broome and the band deliver live performances punctuated by high-energy cover songs by artists ranging from pop-punk favorites No Doubt to the grinding metal masters, Black Sabbath. Of course, her performances include the occasional Etheridge song, too.

Fronted by Broome’s rhythm guitar and her sultry, soulful voice that has a playful lilt, The Amy Broome Band is a force to be reckoned with in Lake Norman’s music scene. Add in the mix of lead guitarist Woody Mitchell’s Telecaster talent, bassist Scot Caviness’s thumping rhythm and drummer Greg Lilly’s break-neck beats, and crowds at The Amy Broome Band’s gigs don’t stand a chance of remaining in their seats.

Although she is always anxious for the next show, Broome says she has spent some time in a recording studio, laying down tracks for her first album of original music, which she expects to be ready later this year. In the meantime, The Amy Broome Band will continue to keep music alive and well by bringing their performance of popular cover songs and previews of the band’s new original music to Huntersville’s Birkdale Village at 7 p.m. Sept. 27.

“It’s always a good time there,” she says. “You have wonderful restaurants, great places to grab a beer and a terrific place to come out and enjoy the music.” “We play clean, and we have a great sound out there.”
